Making tomorrow better, today.
A Partnership built upon a shared vision.
The Vision
Our understanding of how energy has been generated and consumed over history has lead us to believe that without doubt there is a better way, a more harmonious way and a more secure way.
It is our vision to unlock the technical advances that are proven and those which are demonstrable and deploy them on a scale that makes positive impacts across key sectors and around the world.
We want to assist in the re-balance of our environment not only from a climate change perspective caused by carbon emissions but also from a zero or near zero pollution and waste stance.
Additionally we aim to provide regions with access to energy that can unlock socio-economic opportunities and level the playing field for those who wish to better their current position.
The issue:
Climate Crisis.
Fighting Climate Crisis.
Renewable energy sources, which have only recently become the mainstream are now becoming the preferred option, with many renewable projects achieving parity of cost , performance and a lower LCOE (levelized cost of energy) than most electricity produced through fossil fuels.
This means for developing areas, where new infrastructure is required, renewables are the more environmentally friendly option and are now also the cheapest.
In harmony with our energy partners we are working through full project due diligence, ensuring regulatory and legislative compliance and preparing assurance, to initially sell shovel ready projects to our partners who are ready to execute, ultimately developing and operating our own assets.
The Sector:
Large Scale Energy Production.
Research has now indicated that renewable energy is now the largest growth sector in Asia Pacific creating increased supply requirement in all areas and regions.
With demand on the increase of clean energy, LCOE at parity and a global call for a reduction in environment destruction and emissions reduction it is clear that Asia’s development cycle is on the rise. Coupled with ongoing trade wars pushing goods production around the region, the demand is expected to increase rapidly causing a shortage of energy supply, not just to those that most need it, but to industry which demands more.
The issue:
Homelessness.
Fighting against Homelessness.
Supplying new homes for those without is one thing, providing, skills, education, jobs, energy and infrastructure takes care, compassion and the desire to build communities.
Foundation Hopi, has within its remit to do all these things and the power to provide the resource to do so.
It would no small task to provide over 5,000 homes per year, but with the plan in place, Foundation Hopi, working closely with GEPL and its partners envisage providing in excess of 10,000 homes per year, support the governments roll out plan of over 800,000 homes over the next period.
As we say, houses are one thing, homes need support and are a lifeform of the there own.
The Sector:
Homeless.
There are about 4.5 million homeless people in the Philippines of a population of about 106 million, according to the Philippines statistics office. Approximately 3 million homeless are in Manila, possibly the most in any city in the world, some charities estimate. It is also forecasted that this number will grow while people are being moved to make way for industry and roads and being attracted to the cities for employment.
Obviously, this number does not include those applying for government aid or low income families who are sharing existing stock stretching resources to its maximum potential.
In response, the government, in the form of the National Housing Authority (NHA) have supplied housing stock, much of which remains empty due to its location, on the edge of the cities, where no transportation or infrastructure is available to take individuals to their places of work, leaving them either sharing city accommodation, “homeless”, or unable to travel to work, and thus unable to pay rent.
The NHA are proactive in the situation, currently ‘validating the occupiers’ to determine those qualified to get “idle units” and have committed to building a further 800,000 homes over 5 years, although campaigners estimate 5.5 million are actually required.
GEPL, and Foundation Hopi along with our local partners plan to further compliment this effort with a further 10,000 homes per year.
Making a positive impact across the Philippines.
Foundation Hopi and the Global Energy Partnership.
Working on behalf of Foundation Hopi, GEPL has developed a SE Asia portfolio of renewable energy projects totalling over 3GW, a housing portfolio seeking to supply over 10,000 homes per year, including social & community projects, supporting vertical farming & livestock and implementation of clean water generation to support not only the communities we build, but to support those who need it most.
This portfolio has been carefully selected based upon the fundamental pillars of the foundation, to support the community, to support the environment and to increase the countries GDP.
Our energy projects are all renewable energy projects, with varying degrees of development phase completed. These have been geared around supporting the environment, increasing jobs and providing local power to those how can simply not afford to take power from the grid. These social projects all have pay as you go meeting to support the installation cost and ensuring positive returns to effect the next projects.
As we’ve seen, clean water has already been identified by the government as a major issue and has been a focus topic, allowing us to develop in the region.
Housing is key to building the community and supporting the foundations pillars, this will allow resources to be taken from the streets and provided for with our infrastructure projects. With and estimated 10,000 units constructed a year it would be a key principal to understand the support of education and jobs are integral in creating a positive environment for all of those who are part of the project.
